life

Last week was one of those weeks where life seems to just pile it on. Nothing catastrophic, but just a week when everything happens within a handful of days and you feel like you can't catch your breath.  That was us last week. School projects, Halloween, appointments, and then the truck decided to quit.

Luckily there's a whole group of truck recyclers in this world who want trucks that need a new engine  (and a whole lot of other small and not so small mends). While carpooling is fun it takes a whole lot of effort to corral everyone out the door (and yes that involved bribery with Halloween candy), make multiple drop offs, and then arrange for pick up from all those same locations. Man we were thankful that soccer season ended the previous week.

And then there's car shopping. We'll eventually get another truck, but that wasn't happening last week. For now we'll cruise the road in Goldilocks.

And with all of that in the rear view mirror we made it through this week, with our eyes set on the long weekend. Phew!

Mystery History

Last year the big kid chose to be Sir Isaac Newton for his school assignment. This year he opted for a more local historical figure, Everett Ruess.
The writing was marginally easier - my how he despises the act of writing - and the result was great.

I found it in myself to get into the spirit this year.

He was over-the-top excited that he stumped his entire class, even the grown-ups in the room.

Halloween 2017

Our annual Pumpkin Party had yet another successful year, despite my gross oversight in not having candles to light the pumpkins. Thank goodness everyone has a phone they were able to drop in for at least one photo!

The animal theme lives on in Casa Bejos, at least for the littlest Bejos boy. This year the big one opted for a ninja theme, based solely on a random and desperate stop at Sonic on a road trip, where he procured a purple ninja mask.

Last night however, there was a last minute wardrobe change as the little one decided his costume wasn't "creepy" enough - I think it had something to do with a book he read at school. Well thank goodness we had a random costume laying around. One, in fact, that I think he refused to wear last year even though he really wanted to be a dinosaur. Sigh.
