long weekend

 

It was a great weekend even though we didn't ever leave a 25 miles radius from our house. Wood collecting, day camping, gardening, and dinner with friends.

The last time we went camping bejos boy refused to follow sane sleeping etiquette, falling into a fitful and thrashing sleep at about midnight and awaking us at about 6am. We were all tired and cranky for the next two days. I was not about to take on that burden with a newborn this weekend, so we invented a perfect alternative. Daycamping is by far our favorite new summer activity: pack up the tent, books, a few toys, sleeping bags, camp chairs, food, and head into the woods. In the woods from 10 -3 and we felt as renewed as ever by our fresh air getaway.

Rain gear

Bejos boy was more than excited to test out another birthday present in our recent drizzly rains. He burst in from school, ran for his umbrella and coat, and headed out for the rain.

For his birthday bejos boy received goggles, which has spurred on a flurry of imaginative play that involves sharks and scuba diving. He has worn his goggles to school but being the spirit crushing parents we are, we haven't allowed him to wear his "scuba mask".

A Good Book

Every now and then I stumbled upon a good book, mostly because I have friends with good taste and even one friend with a degree in books (Masters in Library Science). I think I actually now have 2 friends with that degree so I am double lucky. But I digress...
In past months I have not found a good book or, who am I kidding - the time, to read a good book. My head hits the pillow and I'm out like a light. But suddenly I have a nice long list of interesting books that I am looking forward to reading. And, luck upon luck, when I stopped into the library today I had not one but 5! books on hold, ready to pick up. Now the issue is getting through all these books before the due date.
