Sister bejos didn't get much time with us but we sure did spend it well and we appreciated the hours of driving she did for a short 24 hours in our company.

Our annual trip east started with yet another flying debacle. Rain in Newark diverted our flight to Ohio for a few hours, which prompted a 100 meter dash through the crowded and un-airconditioned Newark airport. Ugh.

Being in that crowded city airport confirmed what we have suspectd for a long time now; we are not city people. We need wide open spaces.

This lovely sweater has been shipped off to the newest member of my extended family. What does one call your cousin's baby?  I know someone out there knows the proper term.

Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program will be awarding 100 vehicles to
100 nonprofits over the course of 100 days based on votes from the
public. A total of 500 nonprofits were selected from more than 4,000
applications nationwide.   We are hoping to win a new Toyota
Highlander to help our Canyon Country Youth Corps get up to 100 youth
ages 15-25 outside a year for 4-24 weeks, restoring some amazing
landscapes.  Many of our locations are deep in the backcountry, too
far off the beaten path to walk in. Our crews drive more than 40,000
miles a year in a 100,000 square mile area! With a reliable, high
clearance vehicle, we can CCYC youth in the field. Our current support
vehicle has 198,000 miles, is low clearance, and on its last legs.
We'll supply the hard working youth food, tools, and positive
attitude, if Toyota supplies the ride, so we can get more work done!

and that chapter is over

It is official...I am no longer an employee of Four Corners School. This last week I gave up my sports car and drove away from my last duties of teacher training at base camp.

I'd say that now it is time to focus on my new job, but that transition started a long time ago, the moment I decided to accept the teaching position. I have already spent many hours in my classroom, I am reading lots of teacher-y books, and have I have lost many hours of sleep envisioning the first day of school.

 This baby blanket, as previewed here,  has been shipped off to a dear friend who is awaiting the arrival of her daughter in August. I am giddy with excitement for this little one.

The pattern is from Anneliese of Aesthetic Nest and can be found here. As promised, it was relatively easy to crochet and worked up quickly unlike the crochet project I last reported in my on my needles post. That blanket took on a very pronounced trapezoid-ial shape that I couldn't live with. I doubt it was the pattern I was following, having much more to do with the inexperienced crocheter (me!) who was working the pattern. I have since placed an order of the yarn used in this project, in orange. I will yet have myself an orange blanket!

4th of July

This 4th of July was a busy one around here. We awoke to the most amazing sight of gray stormy skies, and almost considered getting out of the car when a few raindrops hit the windshield on our way to the parade. Instead we opted for an umbrella and rain jackets which, of course, jinxed the entire rain potential for the entire day. Nevertheless it was a treat to enjoy a gray overcast day in what is usually a very long and hot parade. Bejos boy was overjoyed with how freely random strangers handed him candy, popsicles, and other parade loot.

Later in the day we returned to town for a little live music and let this little bejos boy get his dance  on and exhaust himself in the bouncy house.

keeping cool

We are dying for some rain here in AZ. Each and every day we are taunted with wind, a slight drop in temperature, and that sweet, sweet smell of rain. Rain in the southwest is by far the sweetest smell of all.

In the meantime we are keeping ourselves cool in this unusually warm weather with visits to the pool and dips in the local watering holes.
