A story from my summer vacation

And just like that, summer is over.
It still feels like summer with afternoon thunderstorms to cool off the rather warm days, a garden that is green and overgrown, and an occasional trip to the pool, but my school duties have begun. It was the shortest summer on record yet, and I can tell from my less than enthusiastic attitude. I seriously need an attitude adjustment before those unsuspecting kiddos walk through the door next week. Until then I will smile and fake it...

Here are a few pics from one of our east coast adventures that do put a smile on my face. My cousin got married this summer and the entire Bejos family was there.

Someone has a new trick

Having never once stood on his own, we were shocked this summer day in NY when we turned to see the littlest Bejos Boy STANDING. Like all camera crazed parents we reached for our phones and tried to capture the moment. This short film doesn't capture how well he was doing it just then, but it will always serve to remind us of the day that he started to stand.

We are ready for him to walk, and keep thinking it will happen, any day now, but alas it has not. A stubborn little guy this one is.

Ice Cream Diaries 2014

Not a great picture, but we were busy bobbing and weaving from monster swarms of blood thirsty mosquitoes, anxious to document our treats and seek the shelter of our car.

Ice Cream Diaries 2014

We were suppose to share this cone, but I got the short end of the stick. It was painful, mostly because it takes about an hour for Bejos Boy to eat a kiddie size cone, although this cone was anything but kiddie size. While trying to hurry up the process I was schooled on his way to eat a cone; one apparently cannot bite into ones cone until one can no longer reach the ice cream. Silly mama.

Ice Cream Diaries 2014

The delay in ice cream outings since the landing of our flight 4 days ago is appalling. I intend to make up every last wasted moment, starting with cone number one.

Tonight we walked the neighborhood of Mr. Bejos' childhood hometown enjoying our sweet treats, debating which house we would buy in our imaginary world of limitless budgets, swatting away blood thirsty mosquitoes, and remembering just how much we miss fireflies.

Cheap Thrills

When the sky is daunting enough to keep us from the pool, and a walk/bike ride just won't do, we are forced to find other entertainment. Today that took the form of a construction site and the mighty machines that hold the attention of the Bejos boys for long enough to consider it an adventure all of its own.

And can we talk about the  stellar outfit that the oldest Bejos boy picked out himself today? He still rocks that wolf pack shirt.

More summer

We have tried, in vain, to take that adorable older Bejos boy fishing for days now. Trip one was entirely mama Bejos's fault, in that I forgot to pack the fishing pole...oops. We instead threw rocks in the lake and collected "treasures" to add to his growing collection of random items.

The next day, with the help of daddy and his day off from work, we made it to the lake only to do so under a dark, thunderous, rainy sky. We diverted our plans to another locale to take a short hike, looking back at the socked in mountain.

The cabin

The last few weeks we spent with some friends who have been absent from our lives for four long years, as they took advantage of a fantastic opportunity to live and work in Europe. When they departed they had one young child; this visit has been dominated by the demands of our new lives with four children between us. They have two beautiful girls to complement our two boys. While we enjoyed the everyday activities of playdates in the woods, at the pool, and in the backyard ,we also relished the return to "the cabin". We spent many days and night here in our earlier days as friends, and were happy to return to this little spot in the woods. The zipline and deck are new, but otherwise it's the same as always.
