A mini holiday

We took a roadtrip to Jerome this weekend to bid farewell to Nanny Kat, who is heading back east.

We tossed coins into a random abandon building - we mocked the people wasting their time and coins on this endeavor, until we tried it. Our pockets were emptied before we actually tired of the past time.

Hung out in Caduceus Cellars, the winery owned by Maynard James Keenan of Tool.

and ate a fabulous breakfast burrito at Quince
Funny how one day can feel like an entire vacation.

Bon Voyage Nanny Kat. We miss you already!

Best intentions

Birthday plans for baby bejos were  foiled this weekend. Instead of entertaining friends Saturday afternoon he spent the day sleeping and fight a fever.

Baby bejos has never been a cuddly little boy who wants to be held and snuggled tight - he is way too busy for that. So, although he wasn't in his best form we did relish the snuggles and naps in our arms, and the memories of napping with a sleeping newborn just one short year ago.

By Sunday evening he did rally for a small birthday celebration with the quintessential baby smash cake picture opportunity. And thank goodness, because we can only eat so many cupcakes!

And then, before we knew it, we witnessed a few glimpses of the usual baby bejos.

Happy Mother's Day 2011

Hugs and kisses to the moms in our lives.

And to the oodles of friends and family who hold this title...or about to enter this realm...Happy Mother's Day!

Cinco De Mayo

It was one year ago tonight that I went into labor with baby bejos, a cindo de Mayo that will never be forgotten!

We had just opened boxes of presents and, too tired to deal with cleaning up piles of wrapping paper and baby paraphernalia, I actually uttered the words "Don't worry about it love, I'll take care of it tomorrow. I am way too tired to deal with it now".  Some of you may not know this about me but I am a person who loves order. I hate going to bed with the house in disorder which, of course, drives my husband crazy. So, giddy with the freedom of this great responsibility, Mr. Bejos hurried us off to bed where my water broke the minute my head hit the pillow. **Sigh**

Leaving for the hospital we knew that the next time we came home it would be with our son or daughter. Knowing I dreaded returning with our new baby to a house in disorder, my husband enlisted our friends to whisk away the mess into another room and shut the door.

My point, you ask? A year later I go to bed every night wishing that there were little magical elves,  like our good friends, who came into my home at  night and tidied up my living space. But alas I am destined to learn one of those lessons of parenthood...something about letting go and priorities, blah, blah, blah...when all I want is a spic and span kitchen when I stumble in to make coffee in the morning.

Sandbox

Parenthood is about sacrifice, right?
So, for my baby bejos, I sacrificed a garden bed to create him his very own sandbox. It pales in comparison to the sandbox I had as a kiddo, but hopefully this simple gift will too consume hours of digging and flooding and sculpting and burying....that is when he stops eating all the rocks and sand that his chubby little hands can hold!

Fieldtrip

This weekend we hit the road to check out the Fossil Creek Creamery. The baby goats were cute,  friendly, and hungry but more importantly the fresh goat cheese foods were delicious. Cheese, fudge, yogurt...yum!
