An extended holiday

This work week was a short one for us.
As in we were at school on Thursday and Friday.
It was preceded by a very, very long extended weekend.
Snow days are the best!

Our days included shoveling, movie watching, coloring/painting/playdough-ing, sledding, snowshoeing, hot cocoa drinking, and card playing.
Then we would wake up again and do it all again.
All in all I think our snowfall total hovered somewhere about 36 inches.

Chatterbox

The other day, while the eldest was at a birthday party, I had some one-on-one time with this handsome guy.

And as we sat over our warm drinks, he chattered away about everything and nothing in particular. It made me think back to when he was a not-quite-walking 1 year old, and had not yet begun to talk. Oh my how we fretted, researched, and called in reinforcements. We have come to learn that this little guy simply likes to do things on his own terms, after quietly observing and contemplating every angle  of a new experience.

Wolverine

The eldest boy had yet another school project that totally and completely engrossed him. He was to study and present on a European animal. The wolverine made the cut. Can I just tell you how funny it is that when you enter "wolverine" into a google search, the actual animal is not what pops up. Time and time again this is what you see:

And thus ensued conversations about the movie and character named Wolverine, and how that might relate to the actual animal.

But I digress.

He worked hard researching all about this ferocious animal and creating a wolverine shaped poster for his presentation.

His favorite fact: "The wolverine has lots of different names. My favorite is nasty cat."

Birthday

Nothing like starting off the new year with a birthday celebration. Just when we had detoxed from the holiday indulgences there was a whole new set of goodies to enjoy!

Rockhounding

We tried a new sport this holiday vacation.
It involved a whole lot of mud,  a false start at the wrong location 😏, but we did come home with a few pseudomorphs that we are darn proud of!

Christmas Eve. The boys unwrapped their box from nanamama - complete with treats, pjs, and books.

Snacks for Santa and his reindeer

Christmas morning

 Traditional scratch-off time.
No big winners this year.

My once a year puzzle, since it dominates the only horizontal space we have - also known as our dining room table.
