Last day of school, and other random notes

Today is the LAST day of school. Can I get an amen??

It has been a heck of a school year, especially considering that last year I didn't work a full year because of the whole having-a-baby thing. In many ways it was easier but also SO much more challenging. Now I can (almost) kick back and enjoy summer with the boys. We are heading to NY next month but until then it will be trips to the gym and pool, painting the house (still, yes I know), and maybe visiting with a few neglected friends. Who knows, you may even see a few more posts here from day to day.

In other news the Slide Fire, which scared the heck out of us as seen here and here, is now 92% contained. We have unpacked our car from the threat of a possible evacuation, and are happily going about our business. Best of all the skies have cleared and we can, literally, breathe easier without the choking smoke and ash that filled the air. We have yet to see the damage firsthand but I can only imagine how horrible the scorched land will look.

Update

No real change on the fire front. We are still packed up, in the unlikely event that we would have to be evacuated, but it is unlikely. Today is smoky in our neighborhood, something we have avoided up to now, and we will be inside the majority of the day.

Acreage is up to 10,000 acres, most of which is a back burn done overnight in the hopes of setting boundaries. 

On a lighter note...yesterday we headed south for a day out.

Fire season

As you may have read or seen by now, our neck of the woods is on fire. We are fine, safe, with a highway between us and where the fire could exit the canyon. Too scary close to really consider the possibilities, but we are on high alert.

Field trip

Not the worst day of work :)

This big kid has a birthday today and I am feeling a bit weepy. We joined him for his birthday circle this morning where we shared a little bit about each year of his life and he traveled around the "sun" for each if his 4 years on Earth. It was too cute.

Happy birthday sweet, sweet boy! 

For awhile this little one wouldn't make his way onto the grass. He was like a cat in snow, one tentative hand at a time, yanked up as if he had just touched hot lava. Apparently he is now over this sensory fear, charing ahead into the wide world as if he has already forgotten who we are.
