Heartbreak

This is a hard post for me.
This weekend Mr Bejos took Cooper on a typical walk in the woods. Somehow Cooper experienced what we think was a blown disc in his back and was unable to use the back part of his body. While there were initial signs of improvement Cooper took a turn for the worse today.

We drove into town tonight with a decision about care weighing heavily upon our shoulders. Cooper, perhaps the most gentle and caring dog I have ever met, took that awful decision out of our hands. Moments before we arrived Cooper passed away.

It was still not easy to say our goodbyes, but it left us with a sense of peace that we were about to make the right decision and that he was no longer in pain.

While we don't expect the next few weeks to be easy ones, running into reminders of our very furry friend each and every day, we are left with wonderful memories. Cooper had endless patience with our not-so-gentle 2 year old, and they were great playmates from very early on.

The very morning he was afflicted we captured this typical picture of Cooper and bejos boy.

Another First

So yesterday did not go exactly as planned.
Bejos boy's cough turned a little bark-y, he spiked a fever, and his breathing was a little scary shallow.
We spent a few hours in the ER, our first trip.
It was an uneventful trip with no blood, no needles.
We did watch football from our exam room.

As you can tell he was feeling much better today with the help of Curious George, Thomas the Train, blocks, books, and few quiet moments of drawing.

Unexpected perks

Shopping the day before Christmas is maybe not always the best idea. We weren't even shopping for presents per say, but we did find ourselves at a very busy shopping center. Kidding about the necessity of parking for people with kids or expectant moms the university worked her magic and BAM! here was an empty spot.

Snowplay

The last few days of vacation here in our neck of the woods took us outdoors into the woods.
I am not a big fan of winter. The amount of gear required, the time required to get outdoors...it's just not my cup of tea. But then again, when we enjoy the thrills and simplicity of winter through the eyes of bejos boy I can tolerate it all a little bit better. Of course the ever blue skies we enjoy here in the west make even the coldest days seem a bit, well, sunnier.

If I were a little more patient, or if I had a little bit more free time on my hands, I would try to tackle the art of editing these separate videos into one video montage. Maybe during maternity leave...as if.
