March in Arizona

We always have one good snow blast in early March and this year was no exception. Last weekend we had thick, wet, NY style snow flying Friday through late Saturday.
No snow day, and a sloppy drive home, but a good last hurrah.
We took to the woods to take advantage of the perfect snow-packing snowfall.

Our town held a snow festival this weekend filled with events. Truckloads of snow were hauled to the middle of town and a ski course was set up down one of our main streets. Another area held kid activities, a beer tent, and entertainment. We braved the snowy road conditions and headed in to meet up with some friends.

Bejos boy was quite tickled with the big pile of snow in the middle of the square and took up playing with the other kiddos. And then suddenly we were in the middle of a snowman building contest that mr bejos and I didn't pay much attention to. I figured bejos boy was too little and wasn't getting what was going on so mr. bejos went to get a beer and I kicked back watching him play in the snow. But then he too was visiting the "accessory table" piled high with carrots, potatoes, coal, and various costume items with some serious intent on his part.

From my point of view I saw this.

When the hat blew off for the third time I was pulled in to help secure it better. It was then that I saw the masterpiece that my 2 year had created.

Besides the tubular oddity on the top of the head I was floored by the actual composition of the face. We named it the melting snowman and joked about it as the competition continued, pointing out to the judges just how original this sculpture was. To our utter surprise bejos boy was included in the awards ceremony and won us a nice and tidy gift certificate to our local Ace Hardware.

Snowplay

The last few days of vacation here in our neck of the woods took us outdoors into the woods.
I am not a big fan of winter. The amount of gear required, the time required to get outdoors...it's just not my cup of tea. But then again, when we enjoy the thrills and simplicity of winter through the eyes of bejos boy I can tolerate it all a little bit better. Of course the ever blue skies we enjoy here in the west make even the coldest days seem a bit, well, sunnier.

 If I were a little more patient, or if I had a little bit more free time on my hands, I would try to tackle the art of editing these separate videos into one video montage. Maybe during maternity leave...as if.

March Madness

Although basketball is the main event around here these days...with mr. bejos winning the pool so far...the real madness is the weather outside. A late March snow storm of epic proportions is dumping inches and inches upon us this cold windy Sunday. We have shoveled twice and continue to watch the plows travel up and down the streets with unwaning excitement each and every time.

When nature calls

This little man stood with his boots at the door demanding that we go outside. Neither of us grown ups were particularly keen on layering on the winter gear and tromping into the woods but we were all a little stir crazy. 

Turned out to be a great idea.

Wintertime

We woke up to this on Saturday morning

 We bundled up (which took forever) and excitedly stepped outside to share the winter snow with baby bejos. He was not excited, except to wear his new mittens

Eventually we coaxed him into the yard with help from Cooper, daddy, and a ball

I am so not ready for winter, hoping for one more warm spell before wintertime really sets in. Fingers crossed...
