On writing:Sailboats

January 24, 2014
There are sailboats. They are falling into the water.
People are falling too. They are "Oh!", a shark will
eat them. The shark has sharp teeth.

Dashing thru the snow, or something like that

While a good portion of the country has been getting slammed with snowstorm after snowstorm, our neck of the woods has been a dry desert, despite the fact that we sit at 7,000+ft elevation. It has been an unseasonably warm winter void of the snow that we desperately need if we have any hope of enjoying the shade of the forest this summer. Nonetheless, I booked us a family date on a horse drawn sleigh quite a few months back, hoping that by the time the time rolled around there actually would be a little bit of snow on the ground. And had we been a healthy household last weekend we would have enjoyed a winter wonderland because a few flakes did fly.

Alas, there was no snow, not even a hint of winter-like conditions this weekend. Instead the temperatures spiked into the high 60s and we needed sunscreen, not hats and mittens. Luckily the sleighs were converted to wagons, and thru the woods we went.
The cowboy camp was set up with hot cocoa, coffee, and a roaring fire that most people avoided, seeing as though the sunny 65degree temps didn't quite necessitate the flames. But of course little boys are drawn to fire and so we sat fireside to enjoy our afternoon snacks.
He rocks that jean jacket, no??

a new look

Bejos boy got a haircut recently, and all his blond highlights fell to the floor. When I asked him if I could take a picture of his new haircut he insisted on putting on the glasses from his doctor kit. Go figure!

Forgive the blurry phone picture. One handed shots with a squirmy baby on the hip is something I have yet to master :)

On writing: Danger

She is going to fall. She is dangerous.
A bear ate her, but she climbed out.
The trees. The person will pass her.
She is dead. She came back alive. The
tree broke when she fell to the water.

A few weeks before Christmas, one of the teachers at Bejos Boy's school, his toddler teacher last year, quite unexpectedly passed away. The only other time Bejos Boy has dealt with death was when we lost Cooper, a year ago now. This death didn't help clarify loss, but it has opened a whole new conversation strand that surfaces quite often.

Sickos

Once again, we are an ill household. It was a low key weekend but it wasn't all doom and gloom.

Off my needles

This little number did in fact turn out much better in round two.
It was created for my cousin's baby girl. This is a cousin I remember, very distinctly, holding in her very early months of life. This baby was named after our great grandmother, where as my little guy bears the name of that great grandfather. Old names are certainly making a comeback!

Pattern can be found here.

10 months

Crazy cute, right?
Same great, easy going personality, except with a few new intolerances. Baby Bejos does not like to get in his carseat, but settles down quickly once the car gets going. The same goes for his highchair at the sitter's house. All tears and drama and then pure calm. Diaper changing is nearly impossible, as it requires him to stop moving, and he does not like to do that! He is also now sporting 4 teeth. Two on top, two on the bottom.

With those new chompers we are working on food with more consistency than baby puree, but he is not taking to it quite yet. The faces he gives us when he takes a chunk of banana or a piece of rice is hilarious. Hopefully he'll grow into it soon because, as we learned at his 9 month appointment, he is a little guy; weighing in only at the 1st percentile. We also learned that his goopy eye necessitated a trip to the ophthalmologist (what a weird word to spell!).

This trip had Mr Bejos and I swinging between outrage and humor. We had a doctor with the worst bedside manner who did nothing to settle our nerves upon hearing that his clogged tear duct may require surgery. The doctor used the phrase "put him down" when referring to anesthesia and then quite calmly informed us that the doctor in town who used to do the surgery, and does so no longer, made this decision after he lost a child during the procedure. No worries though, they have a new doctor, just finishing up her residency and she's "really smart".

Nevertheless, we've decided to wait this out a bit longer and will, if necessary, do it when baby Bejos is a bit older.
